DAISY and Bob Nixon have been together for almost 60 years.

The loving husband and wife team have become one of the first couples to move into the newly renovated Bill Featherstone House redevelopment at Werribee’s Wyndham Lodge aged care facility.

More than $1 million has been spent upgrading the facility, which provides both low and high levels of care.

The new two-level home was opened last week, increasing capacity from 45 to 60 beds.

A not for profit organisation that is run by a board of directors, Wyndham Lodge will mark its 25th anniversary in July.

Described as a “community home, not a facility” by business manager and Wyndham mayor Kim McAliney, Wyndham Lodge employs about 50 staff from registered nurses to cleaners.

“The development of Bill Featherstone House marks a new era for us,” Cr McAliney said.

“We can now provide a far greater service to the residents and the feedback has been really positive.”

It certainly hits the mark with the Nixons, who plan to spend many more years together.
