THE first day of school is often one of apprehension and excitement.

It was no different for the Ken Gale, principal of new school St Brigid’s, at Officer.

After years of planning the school opened its doors last week, an exciting event for all involved.

“Our first day was on Monday with 144 students starting the school year,” Mr Gale said.

“It really is a wonderful school community, the children and their parents are beautiful.”

He said the school consisted of three classes, a Prep class, a Grade 1/2 composite and a senior class that covers Grades 3 to 6.

On Monday more than 80 members of the community joined the school in their first mass.

While only a small school now, Mr Gale said that his students would have all the facilities any other, more established, school would have to offer.

“We have flexible learning areas and everything is brand new,” he said.

“We will also be taking part in inter-school sports and other things like that.”

He said all students looked great in their red and blue uniforms, after many discussions with the uniform committee.
